Summary
Kornilov rose rapidly in the Russian army during the First World War, becoming Commander-in-Chief in July 1917.In August, he sent troops into Petrograd, demanding all military and civil authority be placed in his hands. Kornilov’s forces were repelled by armed workers, garrison soldiers, and socialist agitators, facilitating Bolshevik revolution in October.
